Human intelligence led to the birth of technology. The first digital computer was invented in 1937, as a way to help humanity. Since then technology has improved to a point where it is becoming smarter, more robust and sophisticated. As technology continues to evolve Artificial Intelligence (AI) was created.

And for most of the part, computers and AI have given us a lot of goods such as smartphones, the internet and video game consoles. It has also allowed us to explore the galaxy, make new medicines, make the world more connected and create and control robots.

Brief Human Evolution

Throughout history, human progress has been a pretty gradual process, but during the 1900s our development has spiked resulting in populations that are more comfortable, healthier and have a greater life expectancy. These big loops and progress are caused by new technology or innovation like how the wheel got things rolling.

Take before the Industrial Revolution, for thousands of years life stayed the same and everyone lived on or near the land that provided their food, water and clothes. Tools and everything else were made within their community and the average life expectancy was about 35. Then machinery started to fuel power sources like water wheels and windmills replacing horsepower and people power.

Then came the industrial revolution, the invention of the spinning jenny and water frame ignited the mechanization of the textile industry and the steam engine quickly followed making it possible to work on farms and live without proximity to waterways.

Textiles clothing and furniture started to be mass-produced, freeing up labor and resources which could be used to develop new transportation methods like steamboats and railroads. As these new goods and technologies spread around the world, average income saw unprecedented growth marking the first time in history where the standard of living improvement was widespread.

Throughout history, mankind has been fascinated by tools and their potential to facilitate daily living. Tools made work easier, faster and smarter, and it became an incentive for human progress. Throughout history, human society has used tools to help make life easier but in the 21st century, many new technologies have made our lives even easier. Now, we don’t have to put in nearly as much effort as we did in the past.

Impact of automation

And now with mass production, everything is taken for granted and everybody has some kind of connected device now. The world has become technology-driven and these connected devices generate lots of data every second. Hence, a branch of AI called Machine Learning uses data and algorithms to imitate the way humans learn to gradually improve its accuracy.

Hence, humans create robots. While industries vary in their use of robots, the general impact of automation on the workforce is similar across regions and industry types. The automotive industry has been the fastest to adopt robots, employing more robots than any other industry to make work faster and more accurate. This trend was not positive for all workers.

A machine can to some extent have an unlimited amount of memories and artificial intelligence allows it to work more efficiently than humans. A machine has the ability to work more efficiently than humans, allowing it to produce more goods in less time. It can also travel, communicate and express opinions across the globe. However, unlike humans, machines don’t have emotions, which makes it difficult to share a viewpoint or feel sympathy for others.

The implications of AI are vast. While some people believe that AI will replace jobs in some fields and are worried about massive job losses, wider economic divides and social upheavals. Other people see AI as a way to enhance human capabilities. People fear that it will erode human ability and passion. It’s unclear which perspective will win out in the long run. Whether or not we welcome AI’s revolution, the question is: How do we respond to its implications?

And as we continue to improve artificial intelligence, it may become smart enough to start running itself. Technology will become so advanced, that it won’t need humans to operate it anymore. And as more and more data are produced every second, it will continue to improve itself, becoming more advanced. Hence, as machine keeps learning it may become uncontrollable.

The fear of robots replacing humans is a persistent concern. And with the development of artificial intelligence, automation has become an increasingly prevalent topic of conversation. While most automated jobs do not require human operators now, the impact on wages and employment hasn’t been studied in detail.

This worrying trend is not limited to the automotive industry. According to McKinsey, robotic automation could eliminate 73 million jobs in the United States by 2030. Furthermore, a report from the same institute claims that one-third of the American workforce could need to learn new skills to keep up with the changes.

Are humans becoming obsolete?

The use of AI is a significant development in a variety of fields. AI systems can make millions of diagnoses at once and are not limited by partial views. AI has become an essential tool for tedious decisions that humans have trouble completing. Furthermore, AI systems are capable of handling more data than a human and can solve multiple issues in under a minute.

While humans have difficulty solving complex mathematical problems, AI is capable of solving a million-plus of problems in a few seconds. And as humans are limited by slow biological evolution, there are many challenges facing us in this new world of AI. Some experts have expressed concern that AI could eliminate the human race. Others have warned that AI could redesign itself at a rapid rate, eradicating the human race.

Some researchers believe AI will be a threat to humanity, claiming that it could be sufficiently intelligent enough to acquire resources and protect itself against shutting down. And as AI is being deployed in many industries and is used for routine white-collar tasks, people will need to work with them rather than independently. Since AI uses Machine Learning to learn from the data generated, the systems can gradually replace humans in these tasks.

While AI is very efficient at what it does, it can also cross ethical boundaries and destructively achieve its objective. To avoid this problem, the algorithms developed for AI need to be aligned with the human overarching goals. A single mistake in developing AI may cause devastating results for human life. And this is just one of many challenges facing AI.

As AI systems become more advanced, they will be able to collaborate and will eventually outperform us at any intelligent task. With AI being implemented in more areas of our lives, we are faced with a very important question: Are we becoming obsolete? The answer to this is more complex.

What next for humans?

The future of work will be very different from our current state, as AI will likely replace many human jobs. While AI will eliminate some jobs, it will never replace human emotions or judgment calls. Moreover, certain companies may always need a chief executive or a manager with strong emotional intelligence and teamwork-oriented skills.

In the future, AI will continue to transform the corporate world and will ultimately make most jobs obsolete. So workers will have to learn new skills to compete and should look for ways to remain relevant in this new corporate world. If we don’t want to become obsolete, we should learn new skills, take classes and invest in new education.

Nevertheless, certain jobs will never be automated. Humans will always be needed for human interaction. And some argue that the work of human beings will become more collaborative and robots will do the computation for us. As robots become ubiquitous, humans will need to adapt and train themselves to work alongside AI systems. AI could be a valuable tool for humans and have a profound impact on the world we live in.

AI opens up a whole array of new opportunities. This includes a wide array of applications of tasks that have traditionally been the province of the human brain, such as speech recognition, visual perception and decision-making. And there is room for more as it is being deployed in self-driving cars and trucks, efficient and responsive infrastructure, and smart medical and living systems.

AI has accelerated considerably and has made human life better. From workplaces to cars, from smart home appliances to smartphones, AI is already all around us. Digital assistants are already changing how we live our lives. These digital assistants help us with different tasks by scanning our schedules, performing searches on the Internet and absorbing knowledge from our interactions to deliver better services.

Additionally, artificial intelligence is being used to develop robotic limbs and diagnose patients. AI is changing human life. With more technological advancements, humans can expect to see new technology in the next few years. AI is becoming increasingly popular in many fields and its development will revolutionize the world.

With more advanced technology, artificial intelligence can make humans’ jobs easier and help them be more productive and efficient. It is unlikely that AI will replace humans in all areas of our lives. It is more likely to create jobs. According to the World Economic Forum, AI will not be a job killer, but a job transformer.

Initially, people are skeptical that computers and AI would cause a decline in jobs. But eventually, they became an integral part of our daily lives. Now, computers are making our lives easier and new categories of work are emerging. In fact, the World Economic Forum revealed that AI will create more jobs than it will take away.

It will change the way we do our jobs and how we interact with our colleagues. With AI, humans will learn to adapt and do what we do best. In addition to traditional technical work, humans will develop new concepts and business strategies to implement smart machines. However, the end will determine the results.

For instance, you may end up becoming a robotics manager or an AI teacher. As with any change, humans will need to adapt to the new reality and learn new skills. Fortunately, this change will benefit us all. Usually, when technological disruption arrives as it happens time and again, the dynamic of creative destruction ensues that lives are dislocated, careers are derailed and communities are shattered.

However, humans’ inherent flexibility, adaptability and versatility will continue to be valued and they will adapt to the new capabilities and challenges of AI. So, the future of humanity will depend on how well we can adapt to new technology. If we fail to adapt, then we may end up being obsolete. The future is unclear and nobody can predict it with accuracy, only time will tell.
